Introduction to the Circulatory System

What is the Circulatory System?
The circulatory system is the body’s transport system. It moves blood, oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste throughout the body.

Main Organs:

  • Heart – a strong muscle that pumps blood

  • Blood – carries oxygen and nutrients

  • Blood vessels – tubes that carry blood:

    • Arteries (away from heart)

    • Veins (back to heart)

    • Capillaries (tiny vessels where exchange happens)

Function Summary:
The circulatory system helps keep us alive by delivering what our cells need and removing what they don’t.
